Liptovský Mikuláš

Town Liptovský Mikuláš is the heart of the Liptov region. On the southwest and the western border run the long crests of Velka Fatra and the Low Tatra, in the north rise the Choč and the Western Tatras. Liptovsky Mikulas has the character of an industrial town with textile, tanning, machineengineering and food industries.
It lies on the banks of the Vah river. The first written records on it date from 13th century (1268). In the 19th century Mikulas become the centre of Slovak cultural life - in 1844 Stur`s followers founded here the literary association Tatrin. In May 1848 the national movement culminated in the proclamation of a programme of national revival known as "Demands of Slovak Nation". In April 1898 was founded Tranoscius, the society for publishing. The participants of the Mayday manifestation in 1918 approved a resolution with demands for self determination of nations.

Ružomberok

Town Ružomberok is situated in the Liptov basin and surrounded by the foothills of Veľká Fatra, the Choč and the Low Tatras.
The earliest written mention of the town dates from 1233. The rise of industry, most notably the cellulose and paper and textile industries has occasioned the growth of Ružomberok into a modern town.
Not far from Ružomberok is a folk architecture reserve Vlkolinec, included in UNESCO`s World Heritage List.

Liptovský Hrádok

Liptovský Hrádok lies in the enchanting hollow of Liptov below of slopes of the Low Tatras. It is a tourit starting point to the area of Western, the High and Low Tatras.
Its name was derived from a castle whose origin dates from the turn of the 13th-14th centrury.
In 1796 Francis Wisner of Morgenstern founded here the first, and for long the only foresty school not solely in Slovakia, but in the whole of the then Hungary.
