Slovak Alphabet

a, á, ä, b, c, č, d, ď, dz, dž, e, é, f, g, h,  ch, i, í, j, k, l, ĺ, ľ, m, n, ň, o, ó,  ô, p, r, ŕ, s, š, t, ť, u, ú, v, y, ý, z, ž 

The letter ô represents the diphthong [uo].
The diagraphs dz, dž, ch are considered as single characters.
Diacritical marks "ˇ" is the softening mark.
Diacritical marks "´" is the prolongation mark.
ä may be pronounced as e as in the english word set.

Vowels

Slovak has five short vowels
a, e, i, o, u, 
and five long ones corresponding to these
á, é, í, ó, ú, 

Letters y  - ý  are only orthographic variants of í - i .
